So many things in life are replaceable. You can buy a new car, a new house, new clothes; you can buy almost anything – except a new body. Well, I guess you can do that too! Lol. However, I’d rather work with the body I was gifted at birth.

This motivates me to stay active and be conscious of what I put into my body. I want to be as youthful and healthy for as long as I can be, so that I can enjoy all that life has to offer me. And I encourage you to do the same.

Over the years I have adopted a few hobbies that help me love on this body I live in.

For example, I started swimming last October once gyms opened from the pandemic and now, I swim 2-3 times per week. Swimming builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. It’s an activity that anyone at any age can do because it keeps your heart rate up and doesn’t put a lot of stress on your body. Whenever I am in the pool, I try to stay present by focusing only on my breathing and blocking out any stressors I may have from the day.

In addition to swimming, I also enjoy bike riding. It’s a great way to explore my neighborhood and get around the city. Cycling is another low-impact workout that can improve your heart health, relieve joint pain, help build muscle, and improve your balance and coordination. I love the versatility of cycling out and about or staying indoors on a stationary bike. Sometimes I listen to music when I ride (where [are] my house music lovers at??) and sometimes I like to ride in silence to clear my mind by taking in my surroundings and being present in the feeling of the wind against my face and the feel of the bike beneath me.

There are so many ways to move. Whether you love swimming like I do or prefer other activities like dancing, yoga, rollerblading or even walking, I hope that you stick with it because moving your body is a gift. You may regret many things in life, but you’ll never regret investing time into strengthening and taking care of your body.

So, let’s make a pact! This month, spend at least 15 minutes a day moving your body and make note of how you feel when you move.

Getting started is simple. Find something you love and let’s get moving!
