A special blog from Keys’ CEO, Kyira Harris

Since its inception, my company has grown exponentially over the last 5 years addressing the whole body with enrichment activities, physical fitness activities, professional development and academics for more than 5,000 students and their families.

But, things didn’t start out this way. My journey to Keys was one filled with ups and downs that I hope inspires you to never give up and to keep dreaming!

For new members of the Keys’ community, my name is Kyira A. Harris, and I am a certified Health and Nutrition Consultant who has helped hundreds fall in love with food that powers a vibrant life.

As CEO of Keys to Abundant Life Inc., my team of award-winning chefs and expert instructors teach the connections between nutrition and its effects on the mind, body and spirit through healthy culinary classes, health and wellness workshops for all ages and new activities our participants fall in love with.

My journey in health and wellness began at the age of two, when I was diagnosed with moderate hearing loss, which forced me to wear one hearing aid in my left ear. From kindergarten through part of my high school years, I met with a speech therapist once a week to address my lisp and auditory processing issues, which I still have to this day.

At 21, I began wearing two hearing aids to capture high-frequency sounds that I was missing. Even with those challenges, I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from Hampton University, Master of Arts degree in Speech-language pathology from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign and eventually a certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which led me to start Keys to Abundant Life Inc.

Life is challenging. There is no denying that. But my story is proof that life can also be very beautiful if we commit ourselves to seeing it. That business you’ve been wanting to start – launch it. The hobby you love but have neglected over the years is calling you back to it. Whatever it is your soul is yearning to do, do it. There is no better time than the present.

I could have let my personal challenges be a crutch, but I used it to fuel my purpose, and you can too!
